  • 1 Armure Wool Fabric

    Made in wide widths for use as dresses, coats, etc., good quality yarns, 72-ends, 68 picks per inch. The warp is usually end and end mohair and worsted, two-fold yarns, such as 2 / 60's or 2 / 40's - The weft is single worsted 26's to 32's. Other qualities are made from one kind of warp, but in right and reverse twist, and up to about loo-ends per inch. Cotton weft is used in the cheapest cloths, about 48's yarn dyed black. The photograph shows a typical wool Armure fabric made in a fancy rep weave 84 X 68, 2 / 60's botany / 30's botany. A heavy cloth is also termed "Armure", used for drapery and curtains, woven with brocade figuring on the armure weave ground, and all-wool yarns

    A dress material made from Cheviot wool yarns in armure design styles and usually dyed black.

    This term is given to a special weave which is much used in both the silk and woollen industries. A peculiar pebbled appearance is given to the face of the cloth. Generally woven on 24 staves for silk and 12 to 24 for wool goods. In the design - Black squares = warp up. Crosses = 4-end sateen weft base. Circles = base of warp construction. The word is French for a small pattern

    A heavy ribbed or corded silk with wool weft. It has a warp rib and the face is silk, the weft being covered with silk warp.

  • 5 Armure Victoria

    A dress and mourning style of dress material made from all-wool yarns of fine counts. The finish gives a dull black ground with small, but very fine, lined brocade designs; used for summer and evening dresses, usually 44-in. wide.

  • 6 Armures

    Besides the wool cloths (see Armure Wool) silk cloths are sold as armures under the following names - Louisine, Barathea, Ottoman and Royale, in fine yams and close weaving. A fabric known as Silk Armure is made in the 8-shaft satin weave, either plain or with small warp spots. It has a warp face and grege silk is used for both warp and weft. It is dyed and dull finished.

    A French all-wool dress fabric in crepe and corded effects combined. Dyed black and dull finished, of light summer weight. Made 45 -in. wide. Also known as Armure Victoria.
